In Neath Port Talbot, our history of dependency on dirty industries has affected our air quality and the cleanliness of our towns and communities. But standing by and doing nothing is no longer an option.
So, we are daring to change. Daring to believe in a cleaner future. And daring to do what’s needed to make a difference. We see these challenges as an opportunity to change the way we live and improve things for both our region and the planet.
In Neath Port Talbot we have put decarbonisation and renewable energy at the heart of our economic development strategy. Here, we’re building a centre of expertise in green technology and smart energy. We are bringing together academia, the public sector, private industry and funding agencies to de-risk decarbonisation solutions by running near commercial scale demonstrations. All this will bring jobs and improve the lives of the people who live and work here. More than that, it will help to clean and cool the planet.
Take the Homes as Power Stations project, for example. This aims to deliver smart, low carbon, energy-efficient homes. Homes that create, rather than consume, energy. In partnership with Pobl, the Active Homes Neath project is the first major housing development in the UK to use the ‘Active Buildings’ solar power concept. And this is just the start. The Active Building Centre at Swansea University’s Bay Campus will take new technology and ideas into the market.
We intend for DARE to become a beacon for businesses in the energy, environment and cleantech sectors, daring them to grow with us.
