Swansea Bay City Deal

The Swansea Bay City Deal is an unprecedented programme of investment in the South West Wales region, which comprises Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire local authorities. The region has secured Wales’ largest City Deal to date, worth a total of £1.3 billion over the next 15 years.

This deal will boost the regional economy by at least £1.8 billion. But perhaps more importantly, it will better people’s lives right across South West Wales, by improving services, boosting skills, raising aspirations and creating thousands of new, well-paid employment opportunities.

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council is leading a £58.7 million programme to deliver sustainable jobs and growth in order to support the creation of a decarbonised and innovative economy.

This programme, which is projected to be worth £6.2 million a year to the local economy, will deliver a number of projects focusing on:

  • The decarbonisation of the steel and metals industry.
  • The construction of high-quality, innovatively designed, energy positive buildings with office and laboratory space to support the growth of local businesses or new investors to the area.
  • The provision of a route map to support the commercialisation of hydrogen.
  • The delivery of specialist support to the advanced manufacturing sector.
