Specific: Buildings as Power Stations

SPECIFIC, or the Sustainable Product Engineering Centre for Innovative Functional Industrial Coatings (to give it its full name), is one of only seven Innovation and Knowledge Centres in the UK.

Based at the College of Engineering at Swansea University, the centre’s vision is to create a world in which buildings can generate, store and release their own heat and electricity from solar energy.

Buildings account for about 40% of global carbon emissions; in the UK they consume about 40% of all energy produced. SPECIFIC and its partner projects are paving the way for decarbonisation of heat and power in buildings, both in the UK and internationally.
